*sigh*

Icky day today. Had to line up my summer job at home, make sure I was still employed and all that. Unfortunately I still am. Gross, I hate Silvan, yucky tutoring place. It's not fun there. :(

On the bright side, the explosion at [info]pornish_pixies seems to have brought out the best in all! ^_^ Yay for smut!

Wrote a bit of Neville/Remus for [info]pervy_werewolf and [info]nevillosity. I know I was going for all different pairings this month, and Neville/Remus was one of the first ones I did, but I just couldn't come up with an interesting situation for the others. I'll think more on that tomorrow, and try for a new one then. I just hit major mental melt today. Ah well, it's done now. :)

Summery: After an accident at St. Mungos, Neville needs someone else to turn to.

Questions of the Family

Lupin petted his soft brown hair as the boy wept, crying harshly, his shoulders shaking as he buried his face further into his arms at the kitchen table. All Remus could do was softly run his fingers through the boy’s delicate hair and down his neck, trying to sooth him somehow.

Neville wouldn’t be soothed. He cried harder, eventually sobbing so loud that it woke Mrs. Black’s portrait on the wall, causing Remus to have to calm her as well.

When the morning sun rose and the lights from outdoors slowly lit, Remus finally was able to help Neville to bed, keeping one arm sturdily around him, not sure whether the boy would collapse in his arms at any minute.

He gently deposited him in his bed and pulled off his cool robes, still wet with sweat and tears. Remus tucked him in and fluffed his pillows, before kissing the boy on the forehead and whispering to him that everything will be all right.

Remus didn’t believe his own words, but he held conviction in them, at least trying to sound convincing. He wasn’t sure Neville believed what he said, either, but he couldn’t change the boy’s feelings.

The headline in the paper that morning told of the attack on St. Mungos, and how so many innocent lives had been lost. The Longbottoms were listed with the rest of the causalities on the third page.

Neville didn’t sleep much that morning, returning down long before lunch. Remus watched the boy carefully as he sipped tea, sitting across the table from the many Weasleys. He was putting on a brave sort of face, which Remus was sure the rest of the inhabitants of Grimmauld Place were very thankful for. They couldn’t deal with Harry’s grief over loosing Sirius well; they didn’t need another boy falling to pieces on their hands.

But Remus made sure Neville was tended to. He wasn’t going to ignore him as the rest were doing.

The two developed a pattern; each night they’d retire to the library and either read or play chess. They scarcely talked to each other and when they did they never mentioned the attack or anything else that had to do with Order matter. Remus knew Neville got enough of that as it was.

They had a comfortable silence, which they both enjoyed, and Remus felt no need to expand on that. He was happy just to have a companion to enjoy the evening with.

“Professor?” Neville asked one night, a thick book propped up in front of him, “Did you know my parents?” he questioned tentatively, peering over the top of the pages. Remus sighed, hooking the bookmark between the crisp pages of his novel.

“I knew your father a bit, he was one year ahead of us at school. I never really knew your mother, but not until she joined the Order,” Remus paused, smiling, “they were very good people, Neville,”

The boy smiled a small, sad smile and nodded, “What were they like?” his voice was quiet.

“You’re father was very intelligent. He could have easily been in Ravenclaw, but he was Gryffindor,” Remus held back a broad grin, “he helped me quite a bit with my potion’s homework, actually,”

Neville chuckled softly, “And my mom?”

“She was very sweet, a very nice woman, Neville,” in all truth Remus couldn’t remember much about Alice Longbottom, but he supposed she was a good woman, she had been close friends with Lily, after all.

Neville looked down at the floor, his eyes watery, “I wish I could remember them, you know…before…” his voice broke and he bit his lip.

Remus got up from his seat on the couch across from Neville’s chair and bent beside the boy, running a gentle hand over the boy’s teary face.

“They’d be very proud of you, Neville,” he only snorted and shook his head away from Remus’s hand, “I’m serious, they would be. You’re a good wizard Neville, you’ll do great things for the Order,”

“Really?” Neville looked down to meet Remus’s eyes. His voice was trembling just a tad.

“Yes, Neville, really,”

The boy launched himself at Remus, throwing his arms around the man’s neck, nearly knocking Remus onto his behind. The older man held Neville in his arms, petting his hair in soft, even strokes. Neville buried his face in the crook of Remus’s neck, and he could tell that the boy was crying softly.

He held him like that for a while, until the tears and trembles subsided. As Neville pulled away, very flushed, Remus felt something hard brush up against his leg.

Oh dear. Neville avoided Remus’s gaze, his face flushing more furiously than before.

“You must think I’m a freak,” he whispered weakly.

“You’re not at all a freak, Neville,” Remus assured him, resting his hand on the boy’s shoulder, “you know it happens to everyone,”

Neville opened his mouth as if to say something, but promptly closed it, looking away. He gaze darted over to Remus a few times, and then finally landed on him, staring a while.

Nothing was said, but when Neville leaned over against Remus and pressed his lips against Remus’s, the older man opened his mouth and let Neville’s tongue slide in awkwardly. It was obvious Neville near nothing about what he was attempting to do, but Remus let him go on, pushing and licking and kissing messily.

When they pulled away Neville was panting hard and the bulge in his robes was much more clear, the outline perfectly visible.

Remus sighed and brushed his finger over Neville’s cheek, kissing his neck softly, “Do you want this?” he asked, unbuttoning the top row of buttons on his robes. He knew this was so wrong, taking advantage of a boy whose parents had just died. Neville was clearly feeling lonely and lost and had turned to Remus. But he couldn’t have stopped himself, not even if he had wanted to. It had been such a long time and Neville was so flushed and pink.

Neville whimpered and pushed his hips up, “Yes,” he gasped. Remus wrapped his fingers around the engorged cock through his robes and stroked upwards gently. Neville keened and pressed back enthusiastically.

Remus could feel his own erection hardening, but he said nothing, only leaning in to softly kiss and lick Neville’s exposed neck and lightly move his hand over his cock.

“Please,” Neville half sobbed, thrusting his hips up. His head fell back to land on the cushion of the chair. Remus smiled and moved his hand a tad faster, not even bothering to attempt to remove the boy’s robes. He could tell Neville was nearly there.

He squeezed lightly at the head, sending Neville over the edge. The boy sobbed and thrust his hips up wildly; his face flushed a deep pink. Remus felt warm seed spread over the crotch of Neville’s robes. He removed his hand and gently kissed Neville’s cheek. His own erection ached, but he refused to mention it to never. He’d done enough to the poor child. He didn’t want Neville feeling as though he owed him something.

“Are you all right?” he asked, as Neville sat up dizzily.

“Yeah,” he whispered, “I’m okay,” the boy leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss to Remus’s lips, resting his head on the man’s shoulders. He was still breathing heavily.

“You’ll be fine, Neville,” he whispered, “everything will be fine,” Neville nodded and closed his eyes.

“Will you tell me more about my parents?” Remus sighed, but agreed, despite the sinking sensation in the pit of his stomach.

“Of course,” he answered, wondering whether the next time will lead to a similar circumstance.

I liked the scenario of this fic - Remus/Neville lends so well to hurt-comfort, doesn't it. While it didn't make grammatical sense in a few places, and if you don't object to me Brit-Picking, I feel 'Mom' should have been 'Mum', it was a nice read. Plus, library smut... *g*

I agree with [info]prettypuddle, there's just something about Remus and Neville that lends itself to h/c. *sigh*

This is sweet and hot. I'm going to pretend that Neville eventually convinces Remus that he can take what he wants too. :-)

I noticed two things:
It was obvious Neville near nothing about what he was attempting to do,

...Neville *knew* near nothing... ?

and:

but he refused to mention it to never

...but he refused to mention it to *Neville*...

I know I was going for all different pairings this month, and Neville/Remus was one of the first ones I did, but I just couldn't come up with an interesting situation for the others.

I keep coming back to Neville/Remus this month, as well, and I have at least two more fics planned with that pairing. They are my two favorite characters at the moment, with a side of Severus and Harry.

That said, I'm not sure if the pairing could sustain a longer fic. They are good for short introspective and h/c pieces, but I think they might need stronger foils (I mean foils with very different personalities from their own) for longer fics. Yes, this is something I've been thinking about a lot recently. :-)
